Three reasons to work with a copywriter when designing or redesigning your website

You know the great thing about a website? You can change it. Kind of like getting a haircut, buying new clothes, or rearranging the furniture—sometimes you want a fresh look.

When you have a solid understanding of your brand’s strategy and you’re working with a (really good) copywriter, updates will have a distinct direction. So, you can spring-clean and freshen up your look without reinventing your organization’s direction—unless that’s what you need to do.*

If you do need an update, there are a few reasons to work with a copywriter and not just a web designer:

Reason 1: They get to know your business. Good copywriters ask a lot of questions. They want to know all about you. Why you do what you do and what makes your organization tick. They do this so they can engage your customer with your story. Your website is a vehicle for doing that. The words are as important as the way they are presented.

Reason 2: When you need to make an update, you have someone in your corner who understands your business and your messaging. You’re going to change. Organizations are made up of people and because of that attitudes and in desires evolve. Your customers may change. You won’t stay exactly the same over the years and your website should always reflect your growth. And when you have the bonus of a brand strategy to build on, your updates will always have a purpose and direction.

Reason 3: Sure, most people can write. You can write. Your mom might even be an English teacher. But copywriting is different than dotting Ts, crossing Is and understanding the use of a semicolon. The goal is to be engaging, to reach a particular audience—your audience—in a way that touches them, maybe tickles them, and makes them want to know more about how you can solve their problem. And let’s face it, some of the most effective copy out there broke all your English teacher’s grammar rules.** The trick is knowing when and how to do it. A good copywriter knows how to do this.
